Its been a huge couple of weeks for Soula with us taking the plunge and getting our very own offices!

We previously shared offices with our good partners over at MoreNiche and Zooki Digital but building on our success we decided it’s time to move out on our own.

Here are some initial photos from the office but we are going to get you some higher quality ones once someone remembers to bring their camera in (!).

In our reception area you’ll find a warm Soula welcome, some comfy couches and our logo styled windows. Continue reading

TED Talk on Augmented Reality Maps

Part of being an internet marketer is keeping on top of all the new technologies that are likely to have an impact on us in the upcoming year. A great example of this is understand how and why the iPhone would be so popular and trying to be early in the uptake of the App store.

Well after the TED conference this month I think we have found the next thing to be on top of. Bing’s map section specialist Blaise Aguera y Arcas talks us through the extremely exciting changes they have planned for the Bing maps system.

HTML5 and SEO

If you’re in our industry and haven’t seen anything on HTML 5 yet you seriously must have been in a cave. It’s basically a new version of the core mark-up language on the web and it massively reduces the dependency on the plug-ins we are all so used to seeing.

HTML5 is already rocking the design and development worlds with people clambering to experiment with new functionality, APIs and more but we should always look at all the potential affects of such large shifts in our behaviour and this post aims to address some potential implications the new mark-up will have for SEO.

The first thing to consider is that HTML5 is still a baby really, most browsers have some level of support but few have total support and even then many functions are yet to be completed or fully tested. Because of this any SEO issues or benefits are very much speculation at this stage, while we are running multiple tests to help discover search engine reactions to HTML5 code until it is more mainstream I do not believe these will be definite. Future of SEO

Hey Guys,

There has been a lot of talk recently about the Future of SEO, there has always been the “SEO is dead/going to die” side of discussions which obviously we don’t agree with, i’ve never seen a half compelling argument for this and while ever search exist search optimisation will be needed.

This isn’t to say changes are in store however, Rand did a post Friday over at SEOMoz looking at his opinion of the future of SEO and I thought I would give my professional response to Rand’s ideas as well as some of my own.

Here’s the video for you to watch first, it’s less than 10 minutes long so don’t worry about a lecture. Continue reading

How to Correctly Manage Social PR Disasters

In the past year we have seen a lot of social media PR disasters. Any companies have had embarrassing thing accused about them or proven about them on sites like Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. The Dominos Pizza and RyanAir cases stick in my mind particularly well and these poor public relations can cost companies a lot.

This story is a little different however; this is about the United Airlines handling of a complaint made by a guy called Dave Carroll that UA damage his guitar while on a short internal flight. This I am sure has happened to a lot of people but guitars are particularly expensive as well as obviously fragile and the baggage handlers really should have known better. Continue reading

I Come Out of the Dark Ages; My First Apple Product

It’s a well known fact that designers like their Mac’s. I’m not a designer. Sure they look nice on the desks, they have decent power but let’s be honest you can build a PC 10x as powerful as a MAC for the same price. While I’m not a Mac hater I have never really owned an Apple product before, that’s right I don’t even have an iPod.

That’s because I usually have a phone with an MP3 player, why would I buy another? Well I needed a new phone and after all the hype I decided to go headfirst into the world of Apple and choose the iPhone 3GS. Continue reading

The No-Follow Fallout

Over the last few weeks there has been a big reaction in the SEM community regarding the changes in treatment (or maybe more the fact that it only the announcement of the changes) of the Nofollow tag from Google.

This post from Matt Cutts kind of starting everything off and there has been quite a lot of discussion on the blogsphere since then, as well as in Matts Comments.

In summary Matt revealed that Google changed it policy and handling of the Nofollow tag over a year ago but never bothered to update webmaster. Continue reading

Sitemaps Become More Important

Hey Guys,

We all know creating sitemaps is an essential part of any webmasters jobs these days but as time goes on they become more and more important. Aside from just supporting them Google made a series of changes last week (here’s their post) to give you even more reason to use them.

The most important update is that Google now support a much bigger sitemap than before, the previous 1,000 child limit has been raised to 50,000. That means size is no longer an excuse for not submitting! Continue reading

Live Search Becomes “Bing”

Hello again everyone.

You may have already notice but the faceless giant that is Microsoft this week rebranded it’s mediocre search brand to “Bing“.

Microsoft have gone to pretty big lengths to promote their new baby, they have totally redirect Live.com (very brave) and are using the branding on their MSN network pages. They have also been running a big promotion drive including press releases, promotional gear and have a reported $80-100 million dollar budget for taking on current search giant, Google.
